Ophthalmology and surgical consultations

Yes, we see cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and droopy eyelid consultations, always by appointment. The evaluation happens at our offices and the procedure, if one is needed, is performed by a licensed physician. The visit explains what was found and what the options are.

If you have been told you might need eye surgery, the first step is not surgery: it is an evaluation. Here your case is assessed and your options are explained to you, in your language and without being rushed.

What is evaluated

  • Cataracts — when the lens of the eye loses clarity and vision turns cloudy or colors go flat.
  • Diabetic retinopathy — damage to the blood vessels of the retina associated with diabetes.
  • Glaucoma — pressure inside the eye that can damage the optic nerve.
  • Ptosis — a drooping eyelid that begins to block part of your field of vision.

Other conditions are assessed as well. If you do not see yours here, call us and we will tell you whether we can evaluate it.

How it works

  1. You book an appointment. Surgical consultations are always by appointment: this is not something to settle without an evaluation.
  2. Your case is assessed. Every eye is different, and what works for one person does not work for another. There is no single plan for everyone.
  3. If a procedure is needed, it is performed by a licensed physician. You are told beforehand what it involves, what to expect, and how long recovery takes.
  4. It is coordinated with your primary care doctor and your pharmacy, so everyone caring for you knows the same things and moves in the same direction.

What to expect from this visit

You do not leave with a surgery date. You leave with a clear assessment, your options on the table, and time to think about them. If the right answer is to monitor and come back in six months, that is what you will be told.

Frequently asked questions

Can I walk in for this? No. A surgical evaluation needs reserved time and the right equipment. Call us and we will arrange it.

Is the surgery done at the office? It depends on the procedure and the case. At the consultation you will be told where yours would be done and what it involves.

What if I just want a second opinion? That is a perfectly good reason to come. Bring your previous report if you have one.

Does my insurance cover this kind of visit? It depends on your plan. Check with your office before the appointment: many plans do not cover every procedure.
