Comprehensive eye exam
A complete exam does two things at once: it determines your exact prescription and it checks the condition of your eyes. Those are different things, and both matter.
What to expect
The visit takes between 45 minutes and an hour.
- Your vision history. What you have noticed, what you do for work, how many hours you spend on screens, whether anyone in your family has an eye condition.
- How much you see. With a chart, at distance and up close.
- Your prescription. Measured precisely and refined by trying lenses until the image is sharp and comfortable.
- How your two eyes work together. Focusing, coordination and tracking. This is what decides whether reading tires you.
- Eye health. A check of the structures of the eye, inside and out.
- The conversation. We explain what we found, in the language you prefer.
Who it is for
- It has been more than a year since your last exam, or you cannot remember when it was.
- Your vision is blurry at distance, up close, or both.
- You get headaches when reading or at the end of the workday.
- You are having trouble seeing at night or while driving.
- You see fine but you have diabetes, or someone in your family has glaucoma.
That last point is not a mistake. Several eye conditions progress without discomfort and without taking away vision until damage is already done. That is why the exam is worth having even when your vision feels perfect.
Frequently asked questions
Will my pupils be dilated? Depending on the case. If it is needed, your vision stays blurry for a couple of hours: bring sunglasses and plan not to drive. Ask when we call and we will plan around it.
Do I leave with a prescription the same day? Yes. And if you want, you can choose frames during the same visit.
Is it worth it if I only want to update my glasses? Yes, and that is the most common reason people come. Prescriptions shift over the years, and an old one tires your eyes without your noticing.
